Description

Jack Kirby and George Roussos (as G. Bell) Journey Into Mystery #97 Story Splash Page 1 Original Art (Marvel, 1963). This is the first page of the very first "Tales of Asgard" back-up story ever. It was also the only one to be told solely in caption boxes and illustrations, without any dialog, in the style of Hal Foster's Prince Valiant comic strip. This back-up series gave readers some background on Asgard, while also providing a balance to Thor's Earthly adventures. Properly titled "Tales of... ...Asgard! Home of the Mighty Norse Gods", this title page is signed by the inker in the bottom margin and personalized to read "To my favorite Editor, Jim Salicrup! Best wishes, George Roussos 1985." The twice-up format page is produced in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 12.5" x 18.5". There is a small 1.5" rip in the top right side, just into the word "Asgard!", and some corner damage to the top right corner margin. There is glue residue in the bottom section of the image area and the bottom margin. With light toning, this page is in overall Very Good condition.
