Description

Jack Kirby and Dick Ayers Strange Tales #104 Paste-Pot Pete First Appearance Splash Page 1 Original Art (Marvel, 1962). Don't call him the Trapster -- he'll always be Paste-Pot Pete to us, and this, his first-ever appearance, proves exactly why that nom de guerre is perfect for this gloriously goofy villain! Armed with (you guessed it) a pot full of paste and a gun to dispense it, Pete and his bag full of cash are counting on a smooth escape -- but with the arrival of the Human Torch, his plan is already starting to come unglued.
Not only is this the first appearance of our pal Pete, it's also one of the earliest Silver Age Marvel splash pages we've ever offered -- we're talking early, as in on newsstands next to Fantastic Four #10 and Incredible Hulk #5. It also features what may be the largest and most prominent rendering of the Torch we've ever encountered. Rendered at twice-up scale in ink over graphite on Bristol board by the legendary duo of Jack Kirby and Dick Ayers, the piece has an image area of 12.5" x 18.5. It features the original title paste-up with slight residue staining, light toning, whiteout, marginal notes, corner and edge wear, and a crease that runs nearly the entire width of the page just above Pete's paste pot -- though it's mostly visible only in the empty right margin. In Very Good condition.
