    Description

Gil Kane - Original Unpublished Splash Page for His Name Is Savage #2 (1968). An innovator throughout his long career, Gil Kane published the first issue of His Name Is Savage in magazine format under his own imprint. But poor distribution sank the project, and the second issue was never published or completed. This penciled and partially inked page would have been the splash and contents page for that issue. It features the title character fighting off hungry buzzards in a classic Kane pose of heroism against the odds. Smaller panels, including one detailed close-up, also showcase the beleaguered hero. This is not only vintage Gil Kane but an opportunity to own a little-seen piece of comics history. The printable area is 13" x 18" on a 15" x 20" page, with Kane's art accounting for 13" x 10". There is slight glue discoloration showing through the pasted up indicia.
