George Wunder and Others Skating Smoothly Splash Original; Felix the Cat Splash Original and Various Memorabilia Group of 7 (c. 1900s-1970s) A striking example of Wunder's evolving style (pre-Terry & the Pirates) toplines this variety-packed selection of original artistry and fascinating memorabilia. (Wunder's Skating Smoothly is of undocumented publishing pedigree.) From Felix the Cat #49 (anonymous; Toby Press, 1954) comes a title-page piece featuring supporting character Kokey Koala. The bona fide antique, here, is a well-aged, ragged-edged cover (Hearst's Chicago American, 1902) for the Happy Hooligan sheet-music theme-song, backed with notes and lyrics (reverse) and featuring a drawing by creator Frederick Burr Opper. From 1940-41 are three Sunday-funnies newspaper supplements, toplined by Alex Raymond's companion-features, Jungle Jim and Flash Gordon. More nearly modern is a near-mint (9.4) copy of Marvel Special Edition Featuring Star Wars #1 (1977) in the outsized 10" x 13" format. Original art pieces are composed of ink over graphite on Bristol board, both with light to moderate toning, ranging in size from 9" x 13.5" to 12" x 18". Conditions range from Good to Excellent.
