    Description

Gene Colan and George Tuska - Original Art for Daredevil #39, page 1 (Marvel, 1967). When you think of Silver Age Daredevil, you think of Gene Colan. Colan's long run on DD is much beloved by fans and critics alike, and is marked by his dynamic storytelling, vibrant, unmistakable figure work, and crackling action that made each issue even more exciting than the one before. Offered here is a typically unforgettable title splash page from rather early in Colan's DD run, as the Sightless Swashbuckler swings into action in pursuit of the Super-Powered Unholy Three. You can almost feel the wind whooshing past you as Colan's multiple-image rendering eloquently evokes DD "in flight". A stunning piece. Corrective white-out is only in the word balloons, and a section of the title has been taped in; excellent condition overall. Approximately 10 1/2" x 16 1/2".

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
