Description
Frank Brunner and Neal Adams Studios Marvel Premiere #10 Splash Page 1 Original Art (Marvel, 1973). A powerful page with a lot going on! First off, fantastic Frank Brunner art and Doctor Strange at a peak point for the character. He was just about to get his second title series. Brunner was obviously having a ball with this page, as you can tell from the impressive and detailed art, but also by his playful text at the top of the page marking where the "Doctor Strange... Master of the Mystic Arts" paste-up banner was to go (now missing). The story "Finally, Shuma-Gorath!" was penned by Steve Englehart and co-plotted with Brunner. The inks were handled by the Neal Adams' Continuity Studios (credited as "The Singing Sons of the Crusty Bunker"). As a result, there are some interesting handwritten notes, presumably by Frank Brunner, on the reverse. The idea was even floated of doing the face of Shuma-Gorath as a color-hold effect. Effects such as this played a big part in the next Doctor Strange series (by Marshall Rogers and Terry Austin). Created in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". The splash page has some light stains, whiteout text corrections, and the indicia is a slightly discolored paste-up held on with production tape. The page has previously been folded across the middle, but really only noticeable from the back. In Very Good condition.More information about Frank Brunner. See also: Brunner, Frank Artist.
