    Description

Dick Ayers Strange Tales #115 Splash Page 1 Human Torch Original Art (Marvel, 1963). A fantastic full-body splash page image of young Johnny Storm. One of the things that made Marvel Comics stories resonate with readers was that they were set in the "real world". Most stories happened in New York City, not fictitious cities like Gotham, Metropolis, Star City, or even Gateway City. This page shows the Empire State Building in the background, making it clear even to "out-of-towners" where this action is taking place. "By special arrangement with the Amazing Spider-Man magazine", Spidey's villain the Sandman (Flint Marko) would face the flaming Human Torch in "The Sandman Strikes!" Signed in the bottom margin by "Darlin'" Dick Ayers and dated 4-17-94. The twice-up scale page was created in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 12.5" x 18.5". All text is hand-lettered, even the logo and story title. There is a 5.5" crease in the top right corner across the title, and some minor production oil stains in the bottom right image area, and right side. There is also very light soiling on bottom left, and some very light indentations on the top left image area. Overall in Very Good condition with great eye-appeal. Flame-On! From the Ethan Roberts Estate Collection.
