    Description

Dick Ayers Gunsmoke Western #49 Wyatt Earp Splash Original Art (Marvel, 1958). Ayers, a prolific workhorse in the proto-Marvel Comics bullpen, was a few years away from becoming Jack Kirby's most dependable inker when this solo assignment gave Ayers an opportunity to shine. The split-level splash panel depicts an outlaw recoiling from a warning shot by Marshal Wyatt Earp. Unusual to see a formal byline on a story from this period; Ayers and writer Stan Lee receive their due at lower left. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 10" x 15". Excellent condition. From the Ethan Roberts Estate Collection.
