Description

Carl Barks Uncle Scrooge #59 "North of the Yukon" Splash Page 1 Original Art (Gold Key, 1965). The Uncle Scrooge story "North of the Yukon" was Carl Bark's final Alaska adventure, and one of the best of his later Scrooge tales. Here, the scene is set, as Donald arranges a photo shoot for Jolt Magazine with a very reluctant Scrooge. In the half-page splash panel, we catch a glimpse of the canine hero of the story, "Barko," based on Balto, the real life star of the 1925 Nome serum run, which had been written up in National Geographic (a favorite reference source for Barks). The page, like most existing Barks art, was done in two pieces of bristol, which have been taped together on the back, using masking tape. The combined image area measures approximately 16" x 21", and is in Excellent condition. Signed by Barks in the lower right border.
