Bernie Wrightson Swamp Thing #4 Splash Page 4 Original Art (DC, 1973). A true highwater mark of moody, Gothic brilliance from the Bronze Age, this breathtaking splash captures Bernie Wrightson at his horror-infused best. Beneath a hazy, moonlit sky, the moss-covered brute lingers in shadow, watching silently as Matt Cable and Abigail Arcane are transported by horse-drawn carriage toward a foreboding manor. Wrightson instantly draws the reader into an atmosphere thick with dread, while also evoking the swamp creature's aching solitude as he trails behind. His masterful interplay of light and shadow, intricate crosshatching, and subtle edge work conjure a world steeped in haunted elegance and eerie stillness. This is horror comic art at its finest, from the undisputed master of the macabre in one of the seminal works of his legendary career. Ink, screentone, and white paint over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". Signed by Wrightson on the back. Light toning, tape residue staining, discolored tape, whiteout corrections, minor smudging and staining, trimmed edges, pulled-tape abrasions on edges, and minor handling wear.
