Description

Barry Smith, Tom Sutton, and Tom Palmer Conan the Barbarian #8 Splash Page 1 Original Art (Marvel, 1971). By Crom's tangled beard, this is one fine looking splash-page by Barry Windsor-Smith! Many fans will remember this image as one of the trippy silk-screened blacklight posters by Third Eye, Inc. from the early 1970s. The full body figure of Conan standing 9.5" tall is very choice. Windsor-Smith's detailed backgrounds and fantastic figure work made this book a treat for the eye. Marvel's Conan comic was one of the main reasons for a resurgence in Robert E. Howard fandom that is still going strong today. Interest in Conan pages is still going gangbusters, especially for such an incredible full-figure splash by the comic artist who brought the character to life! Produced in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15" (counting indicia). The page is slightly tanned, with some paste-up residue, and production tape on the credits. There is minor amounts of whiteout art corrections and slight corner wear. Overall in Very Good condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
