Al Williamson and Frank Frazetta - John Wayne Adventure Comics #4, Splash Page 23 Original Art (Toby Press, 1950). John Wayne was at the height of his big-screen popularity when he began starring in his own comic book series, published by Toby Press, which ran for 31 issues until 1955. In this first page of the story, "The Panther Man," "The Duke" comes upon an unfortunate mauling victim, who has been ripped to ribbons by a panther with one long claw. Al Williamson and Frank Frazetta team up for some breathtaking brush work on this four-paneled page. The image area measures 12" x 18", and although there is a bit of discoloration in the final panel from a pasted-over correction, the art is in Excellent condition. The page was signed by Al Williamson at the lower right.
