    S. Clay Wilson - Demon Box Preliminary Dust Jacket Sketch Original Art (Viking, 1986). Here is S. Clay Wilson's cover preliminary for the dust jacket of Ken Kesey's collection, Demon Box. Wilson's sketch incorporates a number of the characters, incidents and locales that appear in Kesey's short pieces, along with the artist's most famous creation, the Checkered Demon. As it turned out, Wilson's art was completely abandoned at a late date, and the final published book had a geometric design on the front and a photograph of Kesey on the back. Rendered in marker and colored pencil on a 23.5" x 18" sheet of paper. The paper has tanned, and there is a vertical and horizontal fold line in the center; otherwise the condition is Very Good.
