Description
Roy G. Krenkel - Tarzan Sketch Original Art (undated). The beloved Roy G. Krenkel was a one-of-a-kind original. He studied anatomy under George Bridgeman, then went to Burne Hogarth's Cartoonists and Illustrators school. He admired the great fantasy draftsmen of the past, giants such as John Allen St. John, Joseph Clement Coll, Norman Lindsay, Daniel Vierge, and Hal Foster, along with scores of others. Krenkel aided several generations of his peers in their artistic endeavors; Wally Wood, Al Williamson, Frank Frazetta, and later Michael Kaluta; all snuck a bit of the artistic prankster's magic into their works. Krenkel had a hard time finishing commercial assignments on a strict deadline, and preferred working on fantasy drawings at his own pace. He is perhaps best known for his Ace paperback covers. This handsome image of a thoughtful Tarzan surveying his jungle domain was drawn with sepia-colored ink, and is a stunning display of highly finished draftsmanship. The image area is approximately 5.5" x 8", and the art is in Excellent condition. Signed with the "RGK" monograph at the lower right.More information about Roy G. Krenkel.
