    Description

Robert Crumb That Lovable Kid Eggs Ackley Large-Scale Sketch Original Art (1970). Crumb had introduced the Underground Comix character Eggs Ackley in 1969's Big Ass Comics. His dating (below the signature) of this faded sketch places it between the début and the sequel in Big Ass #2 (1971). Here is a more nuanced study of Eggs Ackley than can be seen in the published stories, with extensive crosshatching and textural shading. The fading results from an impermanent medium: The Pentel felt-tip produced an emphatic line, but its water-soluble ink was prone to fading. The fading, however, is uniform, and much detail still can be discerned. Image area, 14" x 1 6.5", matted to 18" x 21". Extreme ink-fading, page-toning, creasing, and crinkling, with one 7" diagonal tear at upper right. Good condition.
