Robert Crumb "Street Corner Comics" Sketch Original Art (1968). All throughout the 1960s, compulsive doodler R. Crumb was thinking up ideas for new comic books, drawing covers for them in his many sketchbooks. This is just such a piece, with decidedly un-Politically Correct stereotype image of a Black mother and child (hey, it was the "anything-goes" sixties, and he meant no harm). We love the little cartoon animal standing with hands in pockets, next to a more realistic-looking cat, and the skyscraper background. While this never made it as an actual comic book cover, it was featured in The R. Crumb Coffee Table Art Book and R. Crumb Sketchbook Volume 5. The 7.5" x 10.25" art is in ink on paper, matted and glass front framed to an overall size of 15.75" x 18.5". In Excellent condition. From the Eric Sack Collection.
