Robert Crumb Hand-Lettered "Almanac" Note to Marty Pahls With Sketches Original Art dated 7-22-59 (1959). An eight page note, with a ninth page including sketch art, from Robert to his best friend, Marty Pahls, written while Crumb was a teenager living in Dover, Delaware. The note focuses on Crumb's recent visit with Rick O'Shay cartoonist Stan Lynde, discussions of Marty's upcoming visit, and a list of records Crumb had acquired. On the eighth page, Crumb adds a sketch (in ink) of "Teddy Bear Roosevelt" and on the ninth page (the last with content), he adds an interesting seven-panel shading exercise, in ink and graphite. The original cover is not included with this lot, but two photocopies of that cover will be included. One blank half-page which we presume to be the original "back cover" is also included. The note pages are written by hand on sheets of paper folded to 5.5" x 8.5"; the overall condition is Excellent.
