    Description

Robert Crumb and S. Clay Wilson Tryin' Ta Git Ta Lawrence Kansas Sketchbook Page Original Art (c. 1967). Pen and ink page featuring a stylized R. Crumb drawing of a train heading down the tracks as the smiling sun sets. The figures on the left side of the page, plus the tiny view of the man looking out the train window, were added by Crumb's pal and Zap Comix cohort, S. Clay Wilson, himself a former resident of Lawrence, Kansas. The art has an image area of approximately 7.5" x 9.77". The page appears to have been professionally split from a drawing on the backside, with new paper seamlessly added, resulting in a piece in Excellent condition. Early San Francisco ink sketches like this are not common, and this combination by the two biggest names in Underground Comix may well have been their first collaboration. Very cool!
