Robert Armstrong, Jim Osborne, Art Spiegelman, and Others Small Sketch Group of 10 (c. 1970s). Here's a group of small treasures from the Golden Age of Underground Comix! Most appear to be self-portraits, some are doodles. The only famous Comix character is a homemade postcard with Mickey Rat, drawn in ink and yellow marker on a 6" x 4.25" piece of illustration board. The backside is a message from Robert Armstrong (signing as "Bobbo") to Billy Griff (Bill Griffith, of Zippy the Pinhead fame). The largest piece is a self-portrait of Jim Osborne with short hair, dated '74; it's in ink on piece of 6" x 8" sketchbook paper, with an image size of 4" x 5.75". Smaller pieces are not signed, including a 2" x 2" ink on board self-portrait of Jim Osborne (with long hair); a 3" x 3" ink on board self-portrait (we think) of Robert Williams; a 2" x 2" unmistakable ink on board self-portrait of Art Spiegelman; and a 1.5" x 1.5" ink on paper self-portrait of Spain Rodriguez (paper is mounted to a small Bristol board base). There are small portrait drawings (two on one piece of illo board) with inked images of 1.25" x 1.25" that look to be the work of Bill Griffith; one ink on illo board portrait of a laughing couple that could be either by Griffith or Armstrong; and a trimmed ink on paper drawing of a man with a large head and small face that we're not sure of (maybe Armstrong). The most interesting piece in the group is an inked doodle on paper of two guys wearing glasses measuring together at 2" x 2.5" that looks very much like the work of Robert Crumb. Condition ranges from Very Good to Excellent. From the Eric Sack Collection.
