Rick Griffin - Sketchbook Page Original Art Group of 11 (c. 1990s). Artist Rick Griffin was one of the leading lights among the San Francisco poster artists of the 1960s, as well as a member of the Zap Comix crew led by Robert Crumb. Griffin had a long association with the Grateful Dead, designing album covers and logos for the band. In this group of pages taken from a personal sketchbook, there are several Dead-related items, including a fully inked Skull and Roses drawing (image size 5.5" x 4.25"), plus several pages of studies for a proposed cover to David Gans' 1991 book, Conversations With the Dead, including a mock-up cover in ink with photocopied art, a page with three pencil sketch layout drawings, and a page with three inked sketches of a man holding a skull. Most interesting are six pages of hand-written personal notes and charts, laying out Rick's plans for himself, girlfriend Gina, and several children. These notes emphasize Griffin's profound Christian beliefs, and mention several friends like benefactor Bruce (Bard) of Petaluma, the town Griffin had moved to, and Bob (Robert Beerbohm), who maintained a gallery of Griffin art. The pages are all pulled from a 14.5" x 17" Strathmore sketchbook, and although none are signed, they were originally sold as part of the Estate of Rick Griffin. Condition ranges from Very Good to Excellent.
