Rick Griffin - Arthur Pen Dragon Preliminary Drawing Original Art (undated). Rick Griffin's' beatific thinker, Arthur Pen Dragon, is immersed in deep thought as patterns of a unified Theory of Everything float through his mind. Rick's pencil and pen preliminary is drawn on vellum, and on the reverse side are found these cryptic notes: "Reubin, Silicon, Levi, Judah, Pan; W.H. Bennet Symbols of our Celyo Saxon Heritage; Standard hung from crossbar three tribes with ensigns; Duet 33 Gen 4934; Heraldry is neither more nor less than the science and art of hereditary symbolism; more than 30 of Isarels' symbols in European and American Symbols." The overall vellum size is 14" x 17", while the image area is 10.5" x 15.", and the art is in Excellent condition. The late Rick Griffin was inspired by music, comics, religion, and the ocean and this terrific piece is an excellent demonstration of his creative process at play!
