    Description

Ken Kelly - "Kelly Country" Preliminary Book Cover Study Original Art (Daw, 1985). Kelly Country is an alternate universe tale in which the famous bandit, Ned Kelly, takes over the entire continent of Australia. Written by the most successful science fiction writer in Australian history, A. Bertram Chandler, this book is Chandler's most clearly Australian novel. When Ken Kelly was hired to illustrate the cover of the Daw book, he created several preliminary sketches to flesh out what he would paint in the final art. This vibrant sketch is a loose and colorful representation of how Kelly visualized the final painting. Painted in washes of oil unified in ink on a 10.75" x 16.75" illustration board, the condition is Excellent.
