    Jack Kirby Boy Commandos Model Sheet Original Art (DC, c. 1942-47). This artifact from the Golden Age of comics represents some of the earliest Jack Kirby art to ever come to market! The model sheet of head shots of the four original Boy Commandos and mentor Rip Carter was produced by Jack Kirby in graphite on illustration board. Fear of Simon and Kirby being drafted created the need to hire inkers and writers to assist them in an effort to quickly produce a year's worth of story backlog. This model sheet could have been used by either Kirby or his assistants to keep the characters consistent. The illustration board is very fragile with corners broken off, edges chipped and the whole thing broken into two separate pieces. The assembled image area is approximately 12.5" x 19". Alfie is clearly in the second line; however, his name has been erased and the name of his eventual post-War replacement, Tex, is penciled in. One head of Captain Rip Carter was inked by Charles Nicholas, who worked on a couple of issues of Boy Commandos and from whose estate comes this priceless artifact of comic book history.
