Guy Colwell - Illustration Original Art (1983). Guy Colwell's Underground comic, Inner City Romance, told the tale of three ex-cons, two black, and one white, newly released from prison, who are soon pulled back to their ghetto milieu of hard drugs and loose sex. It's a sympathetic and unflinching portrayal of the black underclass, and was unprecedented at the time. In addition to his graphic novels Inner City Romance and Doll, Colwell is also well known as an illustrator, and his work has appeared in San Francisco magazine, Juxtapoz art magazine, Berkeley Barb, Street Music, East Bay Monthly, Spectator, Ramparts, High Times, Heavy Metal, and many other publications. This detailed pen and ink rendering of a street scene has an image area that measures 8.75" x 11.25", and the art is in Excellent condition. This is an evocative portrayal of a slice of big city life.
