    Description

Gilbert Shelton - Wonder Gas-Hog Illustration Original Art (undated). Rip Off Press founder Fred Todd writes: "This 1972 Chevrolet station wagon was the Rip Off Press company car for many years, and for a while had the reputation of the perfect company car. It could seat 10, hold half a ton of comic books, full sized sheets of plywood, and take the staff and supply booth to the San Diego Comic Book Convention in air-conditioned comfort. By 1986, it had been relegated to second string and had fallen into less than perfect condition. In fact, we kept a case of oil in the back for emergencies. During one of his visits to San Francisco, Gilbert Shelton borrowed it and of course was warned to check the oil. Late one night he phoned to say the engine had blown up while climbing one of San Francisco's steeper hills. This sketch was his way of making up for ignoring the oil leak." The artwork measures 12.5" x 7.5" and is in Excellent condition. It is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by Fred Todd.
