Frank Frazetta - Original Preliminary Sketch for "Winter of the Coup" (1973). From the sketchbook of Frank Frazetta, comes this rough preliminary sketch for "Winter of the Coup", a painting which was originally created as a promotion for the Western Writers of America Book Club. In this small, 7.5" x 9.75" sketch, Frazetta catches the struggle between two figures, and the one beneath seems to have lost the battle. Frazetta's mastery of anatomy and frozen action allows the viewer to experience the moment, not so much as a spectator, but as a participant. Although this sketch is relatively small, it's packed with raw power, and no line is out of place. An astounding insight into the working methods of one of fantasy art's greatest craftsmen. Provenance: The Alexander Gallery.
