Description

Frank Frazetta - Original Preliminary Sketch for Man-Ape (undated). This series of quick sketches were drawn by master illustrator Frank Frazetta as preliminary warm-up drawings for his famous painting, Man-Ape, which has been a highly-successful art print for many years. This small sketch page measures 7" x 10" and is filled on both sides with interesting little gesture drawings of solo figures, and figures in battle, in pencil and limited color. There is a small figure drawing of a warrior on the other side which is the exact pose which Frazetta eventually used for his barbarian in the painting, "Tree of Death". A small glimpse into the working mind of this master of fantasy. Signed on both sides by Frank Frazetta. Provenance: The Alexander Gallery.
