Dick Calkins Buck Rogers Character Sketches Group of 4 Original Art (1953). Back when a postage stamp cost 3 cents and air-mail was a six-cent extravagance, Calkins sent these spontaneous drawings of his signature science-fictional character from his ranch in Arizona to a fan in Florida. By this time, Calkins' conception of Buck Rogers has taken on a resemblance to Buster Crabbe, who had played the futuristic hero in Hollywood. Two Rogers images, here, along with one of consort Wilma Deering and one of a sharp-nosed space creature. (That drawing contains crayon scrawls, probably added by some child.) Graphite on manila notepad stock. Image area, 6" x 9". Extensive age-toning, wrinkling, and edge-tearing. Accompanied by envelopes bearing Calkins' letterhead. Good condition.
