Carl Barks - "Wishing Well" Pencil Sketch (1971) and Mike Royer Uncle Scrooge #229 Cover Original Art (Gladstone, 1988). Here is a pencil sketch created by Carl Barks as a preliminary to his wonderful oil painting titled "Wishing Well," painted in 1971. Based on a cover image created by Carl Barks for the 1954 Dell comic book, Uncle Scrooge #7, the miserly Scrooge can't even stand to waste a penny! This art was drawn on a sheet of tracing paper in graphite with a red pencil underlayer, and has a 12" x 15.5" image area. There is some overall aging apparent in the paper; otherwise, the work is in Excellent condition. Also included in this lot is the Mike Royer-inked cover art for Uncle Scrooge #229 which was finished using the Barks image as its cover scene. The image area of this Royer piece measures 9" x 11", and the art is in Excellent condition.
