Alex Raymond - Scuttle Watch Illustration Original Art (Knopf, 1941). Scuttle Watch was a young adult novel about an 1860s Cape Cod seafaring community and it's fishing fleet, with wonderful pen and ink illustrations of Cape Cod life by Alex Raymond. Author Marion Crowell Ryder wrote, "Scuttle Watch is a true story of the boyhood of my father, the John of the story, and two uncles, in the old home on Cape Cod". This exquisitely detailed scene has the caption, "There was the pine-tree flag! And the fleet was plainly heading straight for the river!" Alex Raymond's clean-edged, spontaneous, and contemporary illustration style was ideal for this romantic reminiscence. The image area of the drawing measures 16" x 12", and the art is in Excellent condition. From the collection of Richard and Wendy Pini.
