Al Williamson Flash Gordon Sketch Original Art (c. 1960s). Williamson had spent his childhood poring over Alex Raymond's Flash Gordon, among other such fine 1930s influences, and so it follows that Williamson became one of the preeminent SF artists of the midcentury. He came full-circle during the 1960s as an inheritor of the artistic duties on Flash Gordon, to which this dynamic miniature is a fascinating side-light. Only the sketch-pad stock marks the piece literally as a sketch, per se; the brushwork is as polished as anything Williamson ever produced for publication. Ink over graphite on sketch-pad page. Image area, 6.5" x 9". Light toning. Excellent condition.
