Description
Sal Buscema Sub-Mariner #35 Cover Original Art (Marvel, 1971). The Hulk, the Silver Surfer, and the Sub-Mariner would soon become The Defenders, but before that they teamed up here, and they had their hands full with Avengers Iron Man, Goliath, and Thor. Sal Buscema provided the pencils and inks for this beauty on World Color Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". The Hulk's face appears to have been re-drawn by another hand (possibly Herb Trimpe's), so there is a bit of whiteout art correction there. The logo, corner box, and all header dressing are stat paste-ups. The word balloons are hand-lettered paste-ups (with a missing text correction and discoloration). The art board was slit right along Goliath's shoulder to allow the word balloon to slip behind him. There are some production stains, spots, and glue residue, along with light corner creasing and overall handling wear and toning.
