    Description

Roy Crane Captain Easy Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 6-23-35 (NEA Syndicate, 1935) A desperate chase finds heroic William Lee, alias Captain Easy, evading a mob of pirates while burdened by an injured fellow explorer. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Crane, a master of both adventure and humor, nails both qualities in this suspenseful sequence. The strip also demonstrates Crane's ability to describe vast landscapes in a few bold contours -- the essential details of a scene, with great economy. Though a single composition, the strip comprises two tiers, designed to be conjoined vertically. Partially hand-colored by the artist. Ink over graphite with added watercolors. Combined dimensions, 22" x 26". Moderate toning and spot-staining. Very Good condition. From the Jack Kent Collection.
