Ron Lesser - "Marilyn Monroe in Photoplay" Cover Re-creation Painting Original Art (c. 1970s). Lesser's astonishing career in advertising, celebrity portraiture, and historical frontier scenes often comes full-circle back to a primary inspiration, the radiant face of Marilyn Monroe. Here, the artist pulls a flashback to the February 1953 issue of Photoplay, re-creating the imagery (originally a photograph) in lush oils. The illusion becomes complete with Lesser's addition of collage elements (with text stat paste-ups) to reflect the content of the published issue. The fusion of paint and paste-ins is virtually seamless. Oils and layered collage, varnished, on fibreboard. Image area, 16" x 19.5". Slight color-variations in Photoplay logotype. Signed by Lesser in the lower area. In Excellent condition.
