Ron Frenz and Brett Breeding The Amazing
Spider-Man #252 Story Page 9 1st Appearance of the Black
Costume Original Art (Marvel, 1984). The very first appearance
of Spider-Man's black costume was this issue, and the first panel
has some similarities to the book's unforgettable cover. The recent
sale of the splash page showing the costume's origin from Secret
Wars #8 for over $3 million made news around the world,
and while we won't claim this page matches that piece, it's
indisputably earlier by seven months (May 1984 cover date with the
Secret Wars issue following in December of that year). Of course,
the black costume later took on added importance when it merged
with Eddie Brock to become Venom. The page offered here is the
sixth page to show the black costume, the sixth! It depicts
Spidey swinging Dr. Curt Conners (The Lizard), back to his
residence to happily reunite him with his family, as Conners' son
is baffled by the hero's new garb. The comic credits Frenz with
breakdowns and Breeding with finished art. Created in ink over
graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". Slight
toning, irregular trimming, chopped corners, whiteout
correction/clean-up, editorial marks/notes, folding/creasing, and
smudging/handling wear. Signed by Breeding in lower margin. In Very

La toute première apparition du costume noir de Spider-Man a eu lieu dans ce numéro #252 et la première case de cette planche présente plusieurs similitudes avec l'inoubliable couverture de ce numéro emblématique. La récente vente de la planche de titre montrant l'origine du costume de Secret Wars #8, pour plus de 3 millions de dollars a créé le buzz dans le monde entier, et bien que nous ne prétendrons pas que cette planche correspond à cette pièce, elle la précède définitivement de sept mois avec une date de couverture de mai 1984, alors que le numéro de Secret Wars suivait en décembre de la même année. Par la suite, le costume noir prendra une importance supplémentaire lorsqu'il fusionnera avec Eddie Brock pour devenir Venom. La planche que nous proposons est la sixième planche, la sixième... !, ayant présenté le costume noir au grand jour. Elle met en action Spidey raccompagnant le Dr Curt Conners (Le Lézard), à sa résidence pour le réunir joyeusement avec sa famille, sous les yeux ébahis du fils de Conners lorsqu'il aperçoit le nouveau costume du héros. Les crédits de ce comics confirment Frenz aux crayonnés et Breeding à la finition et à l'encrage. Encre de Chine sur crayon graphite sur papier Bristol avec une superficie d'image de 25,5 x 38 cm. Légèrement jaunie, rognage irrégulier des bords, coins coupés, correction, white out, notes éditoriales, plis, taches et manipulation générale. Signée par Breeding dans la marge inférieure. En Très Bonne condition.
