Robert Williams Scrimshaw Skull Painting Original Art with Hand Made Frame (1979). A bouquet of ectoplasm floats above an ornately carved human skull in this vivid masterwork by the pioneering Underground legend. Robert Williams' "supercartoon" features the artist's alternate title of Still Life with Apparition and the primitive figures match the carving on the skull. Williams, a key figure in the hot rod, Underground, and contemporary art worlds, is represented by blue-chip galleries, has been the subject of major museum exhibitions, and he has had a waiting list for his new work for years. Important vintage paintings rarely come onto the market and this is an absolutely classic example from a peak period, the same as the famed Guns N' Roses Appetite for Destruction cover art. This masterpiece is housed in a custom-made frame created by the artist and is a great example of Williams' influence on an entire generation of "lowbrow" artists, featured in such publications as Juxtapoz. The image was published in the book The Lowbrow Art of Robert Williams (Last Gasp, 1979), and it was also published as part of a set of eight limited edition prints, The Art and Imagery of Robert Williams, (Shanes and Shanes, 1982). This stunning masterpiece has an image area of 16" x 19", and it has been framed to an overall size of 29" x 32". The art is in Excellent condition.
