    Description

Robert Crumb Black and White Comics One-Shot Complete 4-Page Story Original Art (Apex Novelties, 1973). "Squirrely the Squirrel" finds Underground trailblazer Crumb paying backhanded homage to the mainstream Funny Animal comics genre that had inspired him as a youngster. This takeoff on Rube Grossman's Nutsy Squirrel stories of the 1950s (DC Comics) finds Squirrely the Squirrel tormenting Farnsworth Fox with a variety of cruel pranks. The art is noticeably more vivid than its published appearances (also in R. Crumb's Carload o' Comics and The Complete Crumb Comics #9, from 1976 and 1992). The medium is ink over graphite (minimal pencilling) on bright white Bristol board, with an image area of 8" x 12.25", professionally matted to 15" x 19.5". The splash page contains a faintly legible introductory caption, which Crumb had obscured with white retouching paint. The art is in uniformly Excellent condition. From the Eric Sack Collection.
