Robert Crumb (as "R. Scum") Snatch Comics #1 Inside Back Cover Illustration Original Art (Apex Novelties, 1968). Back in the 1950s, when Robert Crumb was growing up, there was a certain type of pocket-sized humor magazine available that, ahem, catered strictly to men. In between grainy black and white photos of nude or semi-nude women were single-panel cartoons, usually featuring men lusting after well-proportioned young ladies. Crumb and his Underground Comix buddies all remembered those smutty little magazines well, and they created Snatch Comics with this template in mind. In this crisply-drawn inside back cover to the first issue, Crumb nails the concept with a man who is drooling -- quite literally, all over himself -- at the sight of his well-endowed female companion. The art is in ink on bristol, with an image area of approximately 4.75" x 6.75", and is attractively mounted to an overall 7.5" x 9.5". It's enough to make you want to say, "Gosh, it's swell!" or maybe just mutter "Heh heh heh!!" under your breath!
