    Description

Robert Crumb Arcade #33 Cover Original Art (1963). One of young Robert Crumb's ongoing projects was a series of 7" x 9" sketchbooks that he prepared special covers for, as if the books were part of a properly numbered magazine title, Arcade. Here's the cover for "issue #33," done in ink on a sheet of acetate, with Prismacolor pencils used to add color to the reverse, animation cel-style. The cover was then taped to the front of the composition book; there is tape residue on the front edges from this old mounting. The many frogs are symbolic of Crumb's illustrations for fellow American Greetings worker John Gibbons' The Sad Book. The piece measures approximately 6.75" x 8.5", and it has been matted to an overall size of 11" x 12.5". In Excellent condition. Signed on the back by Crumb.
