    Description

R.F. Outcault Buster Brown Sunday Comic Strip Original Art (New York Herald, 1900s). A monumental example, extra-large at almost three feet in height. The irrepressible Buster Brown arrived in 1902 -- brainchild of Outcault, an inventor of the comic-strip medium as a revolutionary component of the newspaper industry. Buster's companion in mischief is his bulldog, Tige -- regarded as the funnypapers' first talking animal. In this splendid page, the task of bathing a cat turns disastrous. A historic masterpiece of cartooning. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area (strip), 20.25" x 27", framed to 26.5" x 35". Image area (portrait), 15.5" x 23.5". Strip's title card (originally pasted over crayon-lettered title) has fallen away. Strip has moderate toning and adhesive residue. Very Good condition.
