Reed Crandall Piracy #3 Cover Original Art (EC, 1955). An absolutely quintessential example of a Pirate-themed cover! You get a ship battle, swords and guns, a boarding party, and even a Jolly Rogers flying on the mast of the dingy! The illustration is rich with detail from the cross-hatched sea to the pirates' garb, to the fully decked out ship. And there is a nice hidden bonus for the eagle-eyed in the audience... Note the crest on the stern of the ship... "RLC"... for Reed Leonard Crandall, the artist! Crandall also signed the piece as "R. Crandall" on the side of the dingy. The cover was rendered in ink over graphite with an original art area of 9.75" x 13.75" surrounded by the side bar, header, and logo stat paste-ups for a combined twice-up 13.5" x 19.5" image area. The issue number and month are hand-lettered paste-up. The board is lightly toned, with a small bit of glue residue in the top right marginal corner and a stain just above the header stat. In Very Good condition.
