    Description

Peter Bagge Neat Stuff #9 Story Page 23 from "Hippy House" Signed and Dated Original Art (Fantagraphics Books, 1988). Bad boy Buddy Bradley is a linchpin of Bagge's career as a humorist and social critic -- an unsympathetic but fascinating leading man who propels Neat Stuff into the literary realm of J.D. Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye and Bret Easton Ellis' Less than Zero. This sequence acquaints Bradley with a reclusive older youth who unloads a litany of creepy emotional baggage. This decisive prelude dovetails with Bagge's Hate books of the 1990s, which plant Bradley amidst Seattle's Grunge-rock scene. "Hippy House" anticipates by two years the teenage intrigues and antagonisms of David Lynch's Twin Peaks. Signed and dated at lower margin. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 12" x 16.25". Light toning and marginal adhesive residue. Excellent condition.
