Will Eisner The Spirit Weekly Newspaper Section Sunday Page 7 Original Art dated 5-23-48 (Register and Tribune Syndicate, 1948). Created by the undisputed master of sequential storytelling, the Spirit was a testing ground for Eisner's innovative layouts and story telling techniques. See how he so easily transitions from an establishing shot (with dialog to draw the reader into the next panel) to increasing closer shots that move the Spirit from the background to the foreground, leading to a nice tight image in Panel 4. Eisner's eye for shadows and black placements created a page that is balanced and easy on the eye. The last panel here features a wonderful shot of a happy-go-lucky Spirit, and bears Eisner's signature in the panel as well. This page once hung in the Montclair Art Museum in New Jersey as part of an exhibit titled "Reflecting Culture: The Evolution of American Comic Book Superheroes". Crafted in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 15" x 21". Matted and glass front framed to 20.5" x 26.5". Lightly toned, it is otherwise in Excellent condition. From the Ethan Roberts Estate Collection.
