DescriptionWill Eisner The Spirit Sunday Newspaper Section Page 2 Original Art dated 6-26-49 (Register & Tribune Syndicate, 1949). Eisner's witty variation on the classic locked-room mystery formula: Supporting character Ebony White finds himself stuck in an elevator car full of criminals. And is the elevator operator the Spirit in disguise? (Well, of course.) A master of sequential storytelling, at a peak of accomplishment, with the gumption to include a large open white space (lowest quadrant) to deepen the composition. The fine lettering (by Abe Kanegson) adds immeasurably to the visual impact. Ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 14" x 19.5". Adhesive staining at the top and bottom -- barely touching the artwork. Light toning. Excellent condition.
