Description
Will Eisner PS: The Preventive Maintenance Monthly Single-Page Calendar Original Art (Dept. of the Army/LOGSA, 1970). The pasted-in signature reads, "Will Eisner," and the style matches, but odds are that the art is either (1) a re-purposed Eisner composition, or (2) a first-rate emulation of Eisner by his protégé Mike Ploog, who had joined the Army publication around this time and would gradually take charge. Either way, the drawing is splendid -- though upstaged by the January calendar, itself (Eisner had by-and-large sidelined his signature creation, The Spirit, since the 1950s, and his gradual withdrawal from the military book presaged a return to The Spirit). This original-art/collage composition consists of ink and graphite on a rather wrinkled sheet of tracing paper, measuring 12" x 17". Intact, though discolored overall.
