DescriptionWally Wood Two-Fisted Tales #24 "Bug Out!" Page 5 Original Art (EC, 1951). An American soldier behind enemy lines in Korea, separated from the rest of his troops, hungry and tired, does what must be done for nourishment, in this page from one of the most intense battle sagas ever shown in the pages of a comic book. Based on a true story, Harvey Kurtzman's "Bug Out!" is more a psychological exploration than a "go-get-'em" war story, as the reader learns that the story's protagonist, Pvt. Valentine, is actually reliving his nightmare over and over again while recuperating in an Army hospital. Pretty wild stuff for a "children's comic book." Artist Wally Wood does his usual bang-up job, infusing each scene with his mastery of shadow and light, ably capturing the look of fear and desperation in the soldier's face. The art is in ink over graphite on Bristol board, with an image area of 13" x 17.75".
