Description

Steve Ditko Tales to Astonish #42 "I Am Not Human" Page 3 Original Art (Marvel, 1963). No collection of great comic book art could be considered complete without a fine example from Hall-of-Fame and Marvel legend Steve Ditko. And the Spider-Man fan will find some familiar elements here: panel 5 is reminiscent of the famous last panel of the first Spidey story in Amazing Fantasy #15, and the characters bear a resemblance to Peter Parker and the Chameleon! This issue, cover-dated April 1963, was released just a month after Amazing Spider-Man #1. Those notes aside, this is a great sixties sci-fi yarn in which a humanoid robot escapes his creator's lab with an artificial face and clothes in order to live among humans as a man. He is so disillusioned with humans' inhumanity to their fellows that he removes the mask and allows his creator to bring him back to the lab. His maker chides him, "You must have known you could never have passed for human for long." To which the robot rebuffs the startled engineer, "Has the thought never occurred to you that no robot would want to?" This piece has an image area of 12.5" x 18.5", and it has been matted and framed alongside two printed pages from the comic to an overall size of 25" x 25". The art is in Excellent condition.
