    Description

Stan Aschmeier All-American Comics Unpublished Story Page 5 Doctor Mid-Nite Original Art (DC, c. 1947). Stan Aschmeier (aka Stan Asch) was the regular artist on Doc Mid-Nite's running feature in this series. The last solo Doctor Mid-Nite story was in Issue #84 in 1947. This page seems to be from an unpublished tale intended for a later issue of that title. This page is more than likely one of the many saved from destruction by a group of eager DC interns in the late 1960s to 1970s. Stacks of unpublished stories were ordered to be cut up and destroyed to make room in the art vault. Interns cleverly cut between the tiers, then went back and retrieved the items from the trash later. In the early to mid 1970s, when DC was looking to fill expanded page-count comics, some of those stories were brought back in and finally published. Created in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 13" x 18". Trimmed between the tiers, the page has been reassembled with tape on the reverse side. There is tape residue in the bottom four panels. In Very Good condition. From the Ethan Roberts Estate Collection.
