Skip Williamson - Original Art, "Those Lovable Wierd-os" (Jay Lynch, 1967). This is one of the most enduring images of late 1960s undergrounds, originally appearing in The Chicago Mirror, and subsequently reproduced in Bijou Funnies and other publications. Skip Williamson's style is squarely in the 1960s "college radical" genre, detailed but loose cartoon-like art with bold use of cross-hatching and black lines drawn with mechanical pens. There are no word balloons here, but this piece says more than is possible with mere words. Skip has drawn himself as one of the weirdos here, and Bob Rudnick (the MC at the Aragon Ballroom) is also featured. You may remember Rudnick as the DJ who played "Louie, Louie" by Kingsmen on his radio program for almost two straight days. The art is on heavy paper, 12" x 15", mounted and framed. Featured in the History Of Underground Art, this is one of the most significant images associated with the underground movement.
