    S. Clay Wilson The Checkered Demon #1 5-Page Partial Story Original Art (Last Gasp, 1977). If Underground artist Wilson's Checkered Demon series had been a newspaper comic strip -- highly unlikely, given the violent lusts of Wilson's vision -- it would have looked a whole lot like this generous selection of episodes, all laid out in tiers like a conventional daily comics feature. These five pages (three strips, or tiers, each) were drawn during January-May of 1976 as the opening episodes of a 32-page comic-book story, overall. The story finds the Checkered Demon taken captive by slavery racketeers. No shortage of rough-stuff misbehavior, here (business as usual for Wilson), all rendered in fine artistic detail. Ink over graphite on Bristol board, with painted white retouching and occasional pasted corrections. The image area measures 10" x 13". Faint age-toning. In Excellent condition. From the Eric Sack Collection.
